Sanskrit can feel intimidating. The Devanagari script. The long compound words. The technical pronunciation. Many beginners delay starting because they think they need to master the language first.
You do not. The mantras below have been chanted by hundreds of millions of devotees - many of whom never learned formal Sanskrit. The practice opens with sincerity, not scholarship. Here are seven mantras any beginner can start today.
How to use this list

Pronunciation tips for any Sanskrit mantra
- Long vowels (marked with ā, ī, ū) are held twice as long as short vowels.
- Aspirated consonants (kh, gh, th, dh, bh) carry a soft puff of air.
- Retroflex consonants (ṭ, ḍ, ṇ) are made with the tongue curled back.
- Anusvara (ṃ) is a nasal sound, like the French "on" but lighter.
- Visarga (ḥ) is a soft breath at the end of a syllable.
Do not let pronunciation perfectionism block you. Listen to a recording once, follow along, and chant. Perfection comes through repetition, not study.
